Camping
Camping is primitive. We will have water tanks set up for the horses. HORSE WATER ONLY will be provided. NO PEOPLE WATER available so please bring your own. Dogs are allowed in camp, BUT MUST BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES. Violators may be asked to leave the premises.
The campsites are slots set off of a road. Pens may be set up by your trailers, but please put your horses where they will not be able to chew or rub on trees. The ranger is very adamant about this. Since there is plenty of parking now, we ask that you only park in existing slots and perpendicular, NOT PARALLEL, to the road. It may get a little crowded with everyone trying to park at the top. Parking will be first come/first served, but if you have a smaller rig please do not take up a larger spot.
Trails
Trails are along park roads and four-wheeler tracks. Good footing throughout! NO BRUSH! There are several long pulls up and down mountains, but no steep climbs. Streams may have water, but we will also put out tanks. Roads are rocky so shoes are strongly recommended. If we’re lucky, the Elk will get curious and you will get a closer look. Trails are permanently marked at crossings with street signs and we will have plenty of glow sticks and paper plates as well.
Original current negative Coggins papers dated within 12 months must be presented for all equines in camp. Additionally, the State of OK requires health papers dated within 10 days of the ride for all out-of-state equines.

From the North and West:
From McAlester, OK. From McAlester take the Indian Nation Turnpike South. Go approx. 26 miles to Daisy Exit (Hwy 43). Go East on Highway 43 until it hits Hwy 271. When you get to the Sardis Lake Dam, turn left and go across the dam, DO NOT TAKE THE COUNTY ROAD TO CLAYTON. Turn Right onto Hwy 271 South and go approx. 5.4 miles to Clayton. Stay on Hwy 271 going out of Clayton. Approx 1.8 miles South of Clayton turn Right on Game Refuge Rd. There is a big park sign that says “Pushmataha Wildlife Management Area”. Follow signs to camp.
From the South:
From Antlers, OK. Take Hwy 2 North out of Antlers to Clayton. Do Not take Hwy 271 (it goes right thru the mountains and it winds around a lot; not very practical for pulling a rig.) From Clayton turn right onto Hwy 271 South. Go approx. 1.8 miles South of Clayton and turn Right on Game Refuge Rd. There is a big park sign that says “Pushmataha Wildlife Management Area”. Follow signs to camp.
From the East:
From Talihina, OK. Take Hwy 271 to Clayton. Stay on Hwy 271 going out of Clayton. Approx 1.8 miles South of Clayton turn Right on Game Refuge Rd. There is a big park sign that says “Pushmataha Wildlife Management Area”. Follow signs to camp.
Once you turn onto Game Refuge Rd., it is approx. 3 miles to camp. You will cross the concrete bridge and turn left at the junction. There are two very steep climbs coming into the park and going up to the camp. The road is dirt but it is very good; just long and steep. Once you start up the hill, DON’T STOP until you get to the top. Once you get to the top of the first hill you will see the entrance sign to the park. Go past the 1st camping area and up the next hill. When you get to the top of the second hill, you will see another camping area sign. This is our camp. The slots are at angle made to back in as you go up the hill. Camp headquarters will be at the top of the hill. Please call if you have any questions about the camp. Since there is plenty of parking now, we ask that you only park in existing slots and perpendicular, NOT PARALLEL, the road. It may get a little crowded with everyone trying to park at the top. Parking will be first come/first served, but if you have a smaller rig please do not take up a larger spot.
